WHO AM I?: Reimagining our identity on our terms!

We know how a bombardment of different messages in society and social media, can make us feel “less-than.”

And we don’t want that for you.

No matter where you come from, or how many heritages you contain, you are as whole as anyone and as entitled to take your place or have your say as anyone in the fight against racism, othering and oppression.

With a delicious mixture of talk and learning, history and identity, alongside our shared history as Brummies’, we will be exploring our identity in a fun and creative way.

We have some amazing speakers who will make this journey educational, inspirational and fun.  Our workshop sessions will include:

·  Dr Robert Beckford, iconic academic, brilliant mind and UK filmmaker, will be taking us on a journey of antiracism through contemporary music from the 40s to present day.

·  Dr Joseph Yannielli, Activist & Professor of History, will take us through the timelines of history, revealing secrets of our past!

·  Casey Bailey, writer, poet, spoken word performer, and rapper, will be entertaining us whilst teaching us how to use our own lived experiences to create our own  spoken word 

·  Jasmine Gardosi, Birmingham’s own Poet Laureate and Honorary Doctor of Letters, will be looking at intersectionality and gender identity

·  Namywa, artist, musician, activist and entrepreneur, will be exploring identity through art and culture.

·   Anam Somalian Poet and spoken word, will be exploring her identity and culture as a woman, an Ethiopian and as a Brummie.

The workshops will take place on a Sunday afternoon in a chilled environment with music and food and on a Tuesday evening to catch up and explore (on & off-line).
