Get ready for MX60 event listings

We are approaching the 60th Anniversary of the most racist election in British history, and the visit to Smethwick by Malcolm X. Get involved with event listings.

In October 1964, Britain witnessed the worst racist election. Smethwick was torn apart after Peter Griffin’s openly racist election campaign had played on the fear of immigration. After the election, the Indian Workers Association and other local immigrant groups worked hard to rebuild unity in the town. Against this backdrop, Malcolm X visited Smethwick, West Midlands in February 1965 at the invitation of the Indian Workers Association.

To mark these events, we are hosting the MX60 season, an anti-racist festival from October 2024 to February 2025 to mark these historical events.

Come to our events and learn how local communities have tackled these issues in the past and how we can develop new tactics for the future.
