Birmingham Palestine All-Dayer
Kings Heath United Against Racism (KHUAR), in collaboration with local venues, proudly presents the Birmingham Palestine All-Dayer Festival scheduled for Sunday, March 31, 2024.
This event is dedicated to raising awareness about the ongoing struggles of the Palestinian people, expressing solidarity, and advocating for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the troubling situation in the Gaza Strip caused by Israel's actions. Additionally, we call for an end to the complicity of UK political leaders in Israeli war crimes.
Established in May 2023 by residents and anti-racist activists in response to an Islamophobic attack on a 73-year-old Muslim man, KHUAR believes, as Martin Luther King said, that "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." The current situation in Israel, resembling apartheid under settler colonialism, highlights the plight of Palestinians as second-class citizens in their homeland. The recent ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), drawing parallels with South Africa's history of racism under apartheid, indicates plausible evidence of genocidal acts by Israel in its assault on Palestinians in Gaza. This ruling holds implications for the UK, urging it to avoid complicity in the crime of genocide.
In light of the ICJ's validation of global concerns and protests against Israel's actions, we urge the UK government to take decisive action. The devastating impact of Israel's bombardment has resulted in the loss of over 27,000 lives, primarily women and children, with thousands missing or presumed dead. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has termed the humanitarian situation in Gaza as "appalling," emphasising the urgent need for intervention.
The Birmingham Palestine All-Dayer Festival will showcase a diverse programme across various venues in Kings Heath, featuring live music, DJ sets, spoken word performances, storytelling, arts and crafts workshops, banner-making sessions, in-depth conversations with Palestinian writers and activists, and presentations on the history of Palestine.
Organised by KHUAR and supported by all Palestinian Solidarity Groups in Birmingham, the festival invites all justice-loving individuals to attend and encourages the promotion of the event within networks. We particularly urge engagement from communities not yet involved in supporting Palestine. Together, let us amplify our collective voice against racism, apartheid, and injustice, working towards a world where peace and justice prevail.
